Sharon L. Heinle is the Associate Vice President & University Controller for the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. In this role, Sharon leads a team responsible for the University’s accounting records, internal and external financial reporting and analysis, tax, procurement, financial systems, and maintaining a strong system of internal controls over financial data and assets. Prior to joining GW in 2007, Sharon worked in progressive positions for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for twelve years and prior to that worked as an auditor with Coopers and Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers). Sharon is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in DC and holds a BSBA degree with a concentration in Accounting from Georgetown University. Sharon also holds the Chartered Global Management Accountant designation from the AICPA and in 2015 was appointed to NACUBO’s Accounting Principles Council for which she currently serves as Vice Chair. In 2019, Sharon joined the AICPA's Not For Profit Expert Panel as NACUBO's higher education industry representative.
