As the chief enrollment officer for Duquesne University, Paul-James Cukanna oversees enrollment planning, projections and strategy formulation and implementation. He also provides executive leadership to the Enrollment Management Group, an 85 person team that includes Undergraduate Admissions, Graduate and Law Admissions, Financial Aid, University Registration, Enrollment Research and Systems, Marketing and Communications, Retention and Advisement, Military and Veteran Student Services as well as new academic program research.
At the University, Cukanna has served as both an associate provost and Vice President. He is as an active member of the executive, academic affairs, audit and finance and enrollment management committees of the board of directors.
Prior to joining Duquesne in 1997, Cukanna spent eighteen years working in enrollment services at the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon. His professional area of interest is providing access to and choice in higher education to academically competitive students from disadvantaged, marginalized and under-represented backgrounds. He has also strived to maintain a collaborative and long-term working relationship with his Business and Finance colleagues.
A native of Punxsutawney, Pa, he holds an undergraduate degree in life sciences from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and graduate degrees in public policy and business administration from Carnegie Mellon University. He is a former recipient of the President's Distinguished Staff Award for his exceptional dedication and service to the University community.
