Morgan R. Olsen is Executive Vice President, Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer at Arizona State University. He is ASU’s chief business and financial officer and holds an appointment as Professor of Practice in the Mary Lou Fulton College of Education.

Olsen’s responsibilities at ASU include overseeing treasury and financial functions, capital projects, real estate, facilities operations, human resources, police, environmental health and safety, information technology and business and auxiliary services at the university’s five campuses.

He serves on the board of directors of the United Educators insurance company and holds memberships in EDUCAUSE, the Association for the Study of Higher Education, and the Society for College and University Planning.

In 2018, Olsen received the National Association of College and University Business Officers, NACUBO, Distinguished Business Officer award. He is a former chair of the NACUBO board of directors, and a past president of the Central Association of College and University Business Officers, CACUBO. The Arizona chapter of Financial Executives International awarded Olsen its CFO of the Year award for a nonprofit in 2017.

Olsen came to ASU November 2008 from Purdue University, where he served as Executive Vice President and Treasurer. He previously served at Southern Methodist University as Vice President for Business and Finance, Eastern Illinois University as Vice President for Business Affairs and Treasurer and Associate Professor in the college student personnel program, and as Vice President for Fiscal Affairs at Emporia State University in Kansas.

Olsen earned a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, and a master's degree in public administration from the University of North Dakota, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. Olsen earned a doctorate in higher education from the University of Kansas. He served as acting Executive Budget Analyst for the North Dakota Office of Management and Budget before entering university administration 1985.
