Mary Lou Merkt retired from her position as vice president for finance and administration at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina in 2018. Whle there, she was responsible for auxiliary services, budget and resource management, facilities services, financial services, information technology services, and human resources. She started her work Furman in 2003. Prior to that time, she served as vice president for finance and administration at Sweet Briar College in Virginia.. She began her career in higher education at her alma mater, Radford University, serving as director of internal audit, director of financial services, and later, assistant vice president for finance. Merkt is a certified public accountant and holds both a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master of business administration degree. She served as president of SACUBO in 2013-14 and is the immediate past chair of the NACUBO Board.
