From robots helping students administer labs virtually to sensors monitoring energy usage to Uber-like golf carts that reduce congestion, the Internet of Things (IoT) is helping schools advance their strategic goals. IoT has the potential to revolutionize campuses, but implementing it is less about technology and more about strategy and leadership. During this panel discussion, higher ed leaders will address how IoT impacts institutional strategies and share how they leverage the IoT movement. Arizona State University, for example, is developing a robust IoT infrastructure for some solutions while working to establish parameters for those with not-yet-proven technologies; it employs IoT tools and apps to enhance fan experiences at stadium games, reduce traffic congestion, and maximize student success. The University of Washington created an IoT Risk Mitigation Task Force to develop systems and a common language around IoT.

Learning Objectives

  • Examine how to approach IoT in the context of achieving strategic goals, return on investment, and enhancing the university experience
  • Learn best practices used by other institutions
  • Develop a strategy to bring IoT to your institution
