NACUBO 4th Annual "Serving the Community"

Service Project

The NACUBO Community Service Project will be held on Saturday morning, July 24th from early morning until mid-afternoon. Developed in partnership with TIAA-CREF with additional assistance from HandsOn Bay Area, business officers will gather to make friends while addressing a worthwhile community need. Volunteers work in teams of ten on projects like assembling outdoor furniture, light painting, or restoration of outdoor recreation areas. All tools, materials, transportation and snacks are provided. Participants must plan to arrive in the bay area by the prior evening to participate in this project.

Project Description: Spend a day at school! Volunteers will work together in small teams to give a facelift to Everett Middle School in the Mission district of San Francisco. Built in 1928, over sixty-five percent of Everett's ethnically diverse students qualify for the free-lunch program, yet average daily attendance exceeds 90% and their drop-out rate is a low .3%. Partnering with TIAA-CREF and supported by other business partners, we will be redoing their cafeteria to transform it into a warm, multi-purpose space for the students and teachers to enjoy. We will also be turning their courtyard into a learning garden and adding comfortable sitting areas, along with painting hallways and completing other much-needed projects at the school. With the deep budget cuts to the San Francisco School District this year, your help is needed more than ever. Come out and make new friends and join the fun! All tools, materials and instruction will be provided. Please note: the service project begins on Saturday morning - to attend this event you need to arrive in San Francisco by Friday evening.

Agency Description: Everett Middle School has an energetic and caring faculty which provides quality instruction to all students. The teachers work in teams to develop a motivating, activity-based instructional program. The academic program is enriched by many Honors classes at the 7th and 8th grade level, and all eighth graders are required to take algebra. Clearly defined student expectations help to keep the school environment safe and focused on learning. A state-of-the-art computer lab promotes the integration of technology across the curriculum at every grade. Many after-school programs are available at Everett through the Beacon Community Center. >>Visit the school website

Blood Drive

As part of the NACUBO "Serving the Community" initiative, NACUBO has chosen to "give back" to the community by holding a Blood Drive. NACUBO has partnered with United Blood Services - Blood Centers of the Pacific to hold the blood drive for all NACUBO attendees, exhibitors, volunteers and guests.

The NACUBO Blood Drive will take place Monday, July 26 from 10:00 am - 3:00pm on the 2nd Level of Moscone West. The Blood Drive is another initiative by NACUBO that will immediately affect and help make a difference in the lives of the local community, and is an easy way to add some social service to your educational conference experience. Note: The Blood Drive originally scheduled for Sunday, July 25 has been cancelled by United Blood Services due to their internal resource contraints. We apologize for any inconvenience.
