New Business Officers Program (NBO)

July 16-18, 2015

Member Registration Fee: $569
Non-member Registration Fee: $769

The New Business Officers Program is designed to provide resources, information and guidance to those new to the chief business officer role within a higher education setting. Throughout an intensive two-day workshop, participants will examine the complexities of the role and learn from experienced chief business officers, presidents, provosts, NACUBO experts and other pivotal higher education representatives. Key issues for the success of every new business officer will be covered. Attendees will have many opportunities to network with colleagues and discuss the challenges facing business officers today.

Emerging issues in accounting, tax, finance, campus operations, legislation, and advocacy will be highlighted by NACUBO staff experts, and lessons learned from current and veteran chief business officers will be shared. The program will also cover how to develop board relationships, mitigate risk, be a leader of change, and communicate effectively with institutional constituents. NACUBO board members will share guidance and advice, and participants will have opportunities to discuss specific nuances related to institution type, geographic region, and industry background. Attendees will be encouraged to evaluate their current practices, exchange ideas and network with colleagues.

An optional session is offered on Thursday, July 16, from 4-6:00pm, designed for chief business officers who are new to the field of higher education. This session will introduce the higher education culture, along with topics and concepts found in higher education that are not common in the corporate or non-profit world. Attendance at the New Business Officers Program is limited to chief business and financial officers who report directly to the president and who have been in their current positions for less than three years. Earn an estimated 15 CPE credits in Communications, Personal Development, and Specialized Knowledge & Applications when you participate in the New Business Officers Program. No prerequisites and/or advance preparation is required. Sessions are targeted to be in the advanced course level.
