Description

In an increasingly complex campus technology environment—one often compounded by decentralized management—higher education institutions must protect their IT systems and networks from service disruption, data breaches, and other malfeasance. Failure to do so may result in costly breach mitigation efforts and the risk of negative media attention. The presenters will address how and why the CBO, who is often responsible for this business area, can establish and maintain good working relationships with IT professionals and cultivate a campus-wide sense of responsibility for data security. They will also discuss imminent Department of Education compliance requirements and new European Union regulations related to data protection.

Learning Objectives

  • Master “the basics” of cybersecurity.
  • Examine trends in cybersecurity regulation that will impact campuses of all sizes.
  • Assess the impact of cybersecurity shortcomings on your institution.
  • Explore the business officer’s role in supporting IT efforts on campus.
