Description

Mergers and acquisitions are becoming more commonplace in the higher education sector. None, however, has been more of a paradigm shift than when Purdue University, a land grant university, acquired Kaplan University, an online college. The panelists will discuss why the acquisition was considered, how Purdue University built internal support, the benefits to each institution, and unanticipated hurdles. They will also explore why future mergers may be strategically important to the long-term future of higher education.

Learning Objectives

  • Approach the decision to pursue an institutional merger or acquisition from multiple perspectives.
  • Become familiar with the process for engaging stakeholders, including trustees, faculty, administration, alumni, and students.
  • Gain insight into implementation successes and challenges.
