Description

The emergence of cloud-based administrative applications promises to address many of the challenges associated with legacy systems and on-premises ERP, offering more fully integrated suites, ubiquitous access and social collaboration via mobile devices, as well as more standardized (and efficient) business processes, improved performance and security, and less dependency on in-house technical capacity. When contemplating a move to a modern, cloud-based system for university financials, thorough and effective planning, especially when an academic medical center and/or a large research portfolio are involved, is critical. In this panel discussion, the University of Southern California and Deloitte will share observations on how effective planning as well as a close partnership between IT and business leadership in the institution can ensure a smooth migration to the cloud, observations on the marketplace for cloud-based administrative applications, important questions to ask when contemplating a migration to the cloud, and lessons learned about implementation and user adoption from a school that has taken the journey.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify the business benefits provided by cloud-based solutions for finance and administration.
  • Evaluate institutional readiness for migrating to cloud-based solutions.
  • Define the components of a successful implementation.
