In view of the tremendous pressure on business officers and staff to do more with less, panelists will share how facilities management can meet the challenge by transforming how it does business. Learn how two campuses from different systems successfully manage facilities and auxiliary units and have become more closely aligned with their academic and administrative clients. U C Davis manages 30 to 40 departments, with 10 to 15 different rates for maintenance services, custodial, fleets, and utilities. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo must comply with state rules and regulations that continuously add demand for information without incremental resources to meet those demands.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize the impact of budgetary realities and improve transparency to engage the academic side to support investment in facilities.
  • Manage limited resources and “deficits” across the institution to change the workflow of projects.
  • Acquire insights about changing the personnel engaged in the process (external customers as well as internal team members) to manage growing complexity.
  • Optimize the resource allocation process to prioritize projects, communicate across the institution, and report on performance.
