Effective communication of financial and budget information to academic leadership, lay boards, policymakers and other constituency groups is a necessary and critical skill for today’s higher education financial leaders. Campus communities demand inclusivity and transparency but sometimes only have limited knowledge about budgeting and finance. Using real life examples that have worked for different university audiences, panelists will discuss effective techniques to communicate financial information to non-financial audiences.

Learning Objectives

  • Recognize how to match the message to the audience.
  • Determine the appropriate level of detail for the audience.
  • Use effective ways to tell the story to the audiences.
  • Implement effective use of graphics in communicating messages.
