Among young Americans, 25 percent are considered underbanked and 13 percent are unbanked. In fact, 60 percent of the top 20 banks don’t even offer student checking accounts. Together with the average student loan debt of $29,000, this contributes to “financial burden” being a prime reason for dropping out of college. This session will discuss tools, programs, and workshops that can make banking better for the millennial generation by eliminating some financial concerns and allowing students to focus on their studies. Representatives of Midlands Technical College will share details of the college’s programs to help its students learn more about the importance of banking and money management.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn why students feel less prepared to manage their money than their academics.
  • Discuss the unique banking needs of millennials.
  • Improve your institution’s financial literacy programs and student success.
