Tom Phizacklea is a proven financial leader in higher education. A first generation graduate who also studied at the Institute for Educational
Management at Harvard University, he is a strong advocate for access and affordability for private, liberal-arts education. He joined McDaniel in 2014 and is responsible for budget planning and oversight, campus construction and renovation, management of the College’s endowment and operations, human resources, for-profit rentals and contractual agreements, as well as WMC Development Corporation, the College’s for-profit enterprise.
Mr. Phizacklea has held senior-level leadership positions at Centenary College of Louisiana, and most recently, Goucher College, where he served as vice president for finance for 15 years. At Goucher, he refinanced the entire debt portfolio resulting in a decrease in annual debt service of $1.5 million and developed a strategic financial planning model. He served as a member of the Goucher College Strategic Planning Committee and co-chair of the Goucher College Risk Management Committee.
A former member of the governing board of the Baltimore Collegetown Network, Mr. Phizacklea currently serves on the board at Trinity Washington University. As a member of the leadership team at McDaniel, he also serves as liaison to the Board of Trustees on the Budget, Endowment, Buildings and Grounds, Audit and Executive committees.
A native of Johnstown, Pa., he holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, where he attended night school and completed a major in business and economics. Mr. Phizacklea earned an M.B.A. from Mount St. Mary’s University. He resides in Owings Mills, Md., with his wife Jeanne, assistand head and director of enrollment management and financial aid at Friends School of Baltimore, and a son. Another son and daughter live in Woodbridge, Va.
