Ruth Johnston works at the University of Washington as Vice Chancellor, Administration & Planning, Bothell Campus. In that role Ruth is responsible for facilities, human resources, campus safety, space planning and budget/finance. She formerly served as Associate Vice President and Chief of Staff in Planning & Management leading and facilitating UW wide Organizational Excellence, UW Sustainability, and the Business Diversity Program. Her Ph.D is in Organization Development and Higher Education. She teaches a variety of classes and workshops, and consults with higher education institutions and associations and some federal agencies. In 2014, Ruth was awarded the 2014 NACUBO Professional Development Award. Ruth served on the board of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) and is active with the National and Western Association of College and University Business Officers (N/WACUBO) and the Institute for Student Services Professionals (ISSP). In Ruth’s career at the UW, she has worked in Student Life, Continuing Education, Human Resources, Financial Management, Finance & Facilities, Office of the Provost, and Planning & Budgeting. Ruth is currently WACUBO's 2nd vice president and program chair for the 2019 annual conference in Vancouver, B.C.
