Lee Nelson

Director, Innovation Square, University of Florida , Gainesville, Florida

Lee Nelson joined the University of Florida as Director of Real Estate in the Fall of 2014. He is responsible for real estate strategic planning, asset management, and transaction management for the University and associated philanthropic Foundation.

Prior to the University, he was Director of Real Estate Services at the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, where he worked with the 31 schools of the System to coordinate and execute real estate issues and transactions. Issues he has tackled include development of satellite campus facilities, land transactions, underwriting and due diligence for acquisitions of properties for the use of the institutions, and coordination of activities to adhere to Board policies and procedures.

Prior to the Board Mr. Nelson was at Colonial Properties Trust, a publicly traded REIT, where he was Senior Vice President of Asset Management and Strategic Planning. He has also worked with private equity investors and development on properties throughout the southeast and southwest in numerous roles, including the development of the 1.1 million squaer foot SunTrust Plaza in downtown Atlanta. He has been involved with over $1 billion worth of commercial investment properties, responsible at various times for acquisitions, development, dispositions, asset management, and operations.

Mr. Nelson received a degree in economics from Yale University in New Haven CT. He is active in industry groups, including the Association of University Real Estate Officials, the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties, Association of University Research Parks, and as past President of the Real Estate Group of Atlanta.
