James Matteo (Jim) is the University of Virginia’s Associate Vice President & Treasurer. He is responsible for debt management, liquidity management, and cash and short-term investment management. Jim oversees the University-wide ERM function, the Property and Liability Risk Management function, and administers the University's relationships with its 26 affiliated foundations.

Prior to joining the University in 2005, Jim spent 14 years in the private sector with a Fortune 500 company first as an internal auditor and then managing various finance functions including corporate finance, cash management, and interest rate and foreign currency risk management.

Jim is a board member of the Treasury Institute for Higher Education, a board member of the University of Virginia Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy Foundation, and serves on NACUBO’s Research Universities Council. He is a former member of the Advisory Board for the NACUBO/Commonfund Study of Endowments and has been a member of the Association for Financial Professional's ("AFP's") Cash Flow Forecasting Task Force and other AFP task forces responsible for developing questions and determining passing scores for the Certified Treasury Professional exam. He is a recipient of NACUBO's Rising Star Award.

Jim received a B.S. in Finance, with high distinction, from the Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A. from Moravian College. He is a Certified Treasury Professional and a Certified Management Accountant.
