Gayle Callahan is the Director, Bursar Operations at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) in Overland Park, KS. She has a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Kansas. She is a 1997 graduate of CACUBO’s Collegiate Management Institute.

Gayle joined JCCC in June of 1993 as the Manager, Business Office Services/Bursar. During her tenure at JCCC, the college has implemented Banner as its ERP across all administrative areas. E-commerce has transformed Bursar Operations from staff communicating with students in-person and by mail to self-service information for students and electronic communications. Checks for payments and refunds have been replaced by web checks and e-refunds. As a result, the office has direct contact with only a small percentage of students, but those students require more attention from the staff. Another change in the last 20 plus years, is the regulatory environment. From 1098T reporting to PCI compliance, to cash management rules, student account offices must keep abreast of many regulations.

The Bursar Office at JCCC serves approximately 20,000 credit students each semester and 22,000 students annually enrolled in noncredit workforce training and personal enrichment. The Bursar Office responsibilities include typical student account services such as billing, sponsorship billings, cashiering, payment plan management, refunding, collections, and 1098T reporting for students. Additionally, the office manages ID card fund balances, deposit and general ledger posting of monies collected by auxiliary services (Bookstore, Dining, Box Office, online stores (everything from travel to conferences to student club memberships), and non-enrollment billings (facility rental, catering, contract training, etc.).
