Ellen J. Ellison, CFA, has served as Chief Investment Officer of the University of Illinois Foundation since January 2013 when she was recruited to staff and build the first independent investment team based in Chicago. Over the past four years, she has recruited investment and operational talent as well as managed the $1.5 billion endowment pool of the Foundation. Based in Chicago, Ellison is a member of the Foundation’s senior leadership team headquartered at the Flagship University of Illinois campus in Champaign-Urbana.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Ellison had significant experience in investment management and endowment management: she served as executive director of investments at the University of Miami from 2006 – 2012 and was responsible for multi-class asset investment pools, including university endowment and pension funds. She has also served as the chief investment officer at J.I.K. Investment Services, Inc., a family office in Miami, Fla., and as a senior vice president at Fiduciary Trust Company International in both New York and Miami.
The Glen Cove, N.Y. native received a bachelor’s degree in French literature from Mount Holyoke College and then earned an MBA from Columbia University Business School. She speaks four languages and serves on a number of not-for-profit boards.
