Hillsborough Community College Ybor City Campus Tour
Join your colleagues for a tour of the Hillsborough Community College - Ybor City Campus on Tuesday, July 12 from 8:30 am - 11:15 am.
The Hillsborough Community College - Ybor City Campus is nestled in the Latino Historic District of Tampa. The tour will highlight a restored historic building, a newly renovated Performing Arts Building, and a newly constructed state-of-the-art Student Services Building providing one-stop services to students.
Prior to being purchased and restored by HCC, the current Child Development Center and HCC dance studio building housed, at various points, a newspaper, a school, and the Sugar Palm Ballroom. Now the same building holds a nationally accredited child development and voluntary pre-kindergarten program serving the college's students and staff on the first floor, and dance classes ranging from classical ballet to modern dance on the second floor.
The Performing Arts Building features practice studios, classrooms, band room, both a "black box" and a 246 seat professional grade theatre, and an art gallery that showcases both student and professional artwork.
The new Student Services Building, dedicated on June 8, 2010, achieved UBC LEED Gold Certification and marries sustainable planning with an architectural design complimentary of the surrounding Ybor City Historic District. The building's unique layout was developed a round an innovative philosophy of student services; and was designed in nearly every detail by staff, students, and faculty.
Buses will depart at 8:30am from Level 1 of the Tampa Convention Center and return at 11:15 am. Advance registration is required for this tour.
